Я ненавижу свет - I Despise The Light

Osip was another outstanding poet who fought against the communist government of Russia at that time. The poetry of Osip Mandelstam was exclusively focused in political issues during the government of Joseph Stalin. That is why that the majority of his literary work was unpublished during the government of Stalin. He was born in the city of Warsaw in Poland in 1891. The poet is considered as one of the most important poets of the 20th century in Russia.

Я ненавижу свет

Я ненавижу свет
Однообразных звезд.
Здравствуй, мой
 Древний бред,
Башни стрельчатой

Кружевом, камень,
Будь, И паутиной
стань, Неба пустую
 грудь Тонкой иглою

Будет и мой черед
Чую размах крыла.
Так, но куда уйдет
Мысли живой стрела?

Или, свой путь и срок,
Я, исчерпав, вернусь:
Там - я любить не мог,
Здесь - я любить боюсь...

Of monotonous stars.

Stone, turn to lace
Become a spider web,
With your thin needle, wound
The empty breast of the sky.

My own turn will come
I feel the spread of my wings.

Of living thought fly?

Perhaps having used up my path
And time, I will come back
There-I could not love,
Here-I fear loving...
