Russian preposition за (behind, beyond, over, at, after, for)

ENGLISH EQUIVALENTS: behind, over, at, after, for (accusative only)

In Russian, the preposition “**за” is employed in order to denote the position of one thing in relation to another. Examples:

  • The chair is behind the desk.
  • стул за столом.
  • Stul za stalom.
  • They drove beyond the borders.
  • они поехали за границу.
  • Oni payekhali za dranitsu.
  • I’m standing behind you in the picture.
  • Я стою за вами на картинке.
  • Ya stoyu za vami na kartinke.
  • Always look beyond the appearance.
  • всегда заглянуть за внешний вид.
  • Vsegda zaglyanut’ za vneishnii vid.
  • She paid for my dinner.
  • она заплатила за свой обед.
  • Ona zaplatila za sboi abied.
  • They thanked the doctor for his dedication.
  • они благодарили врача за его преданность.
  • Oni blagadarili vracha za yego predannost’.
